Visiting Old Friends

Living on the West Coast I don’t get the chance to visit old friends located in Washington D.C.. I doubt I will ever get that chance as I view D.C. as a nasty place anyways.
Fortunately for me I got the chance to see old friends I haven’t seen in some 35 years now. Some had slipped from my memory but others are as clear as a bell to me.
I got that chance this Memorial Day Weekend and my wife, Anita, and I went to see them. We had a little trouble locating where they were and of course, finding them out of over 58,000 who were there, but found them none the less.
As I stood before them and looked at the rest of the over 58,000 being viewed and visited by many, in the cold and rain known to the Northwest, memories of our youth together came back to me and I envisioned them all smiling back at me still youthful as ever. It seemed only I had aged and gone gray.
I looked around me and saw several others who had aged visiting with their old friends, some with tears streaming down their cheeks. Some introduced grandchildren to their old friends and told stories of their youthful exploits and the last time they saw each other. Others just wept as they reached out to touch a special old friend.
I never thought I would have the chance to see my old friends again and also thought maybe a reunion with them might prove too emotional for me. But, I was wrong on both accounts. Through the generosity of Dignity Memorial Service and the hard work of a lot of people as well as sponsorship by KPAM 860 AM Talk Radio, a 3/4 replica of the Viet Nam Veterans Memorial Wall was brought to Portland, Oregon for Memorial Day Weekend for us all to visit and pay our respects to old friends we lost while serving in Viet Nam.
While I served in Viet Nam my unit, C Troop 7/17th Air Cavalry, lost 13 men. Two I remember distinctly, although I knew all 13 and at one time or another had spoken to them all. Sgt Scott Stanton and Sfc Robert Pilk were the old friends I sought out this evening.
Whether you ever served or not I encourage all to make the effort to at least once visit either the actual Viet Nam Veterans Memorial or one of the replicas traveling the country.
The outcome of that conflict doesn’t matter. What does matter is that 2.5 million Americans served there fighting for the principles of freedom for both Americans and the South Vietnamese. Over 58,000 paid the ultimate sacrifice, laying down their lives for friends and people they never knew. According to all versions of the Bible I have read, no man gives a greater gift than to lay down his life for friends or neighbors.
Be thankful America produces people such as these and vist them from time to time. They deserve our respect for their sacrifices.
PS: On a side note, after visiting with my old friends I had the pleasure of actually meeting Victoria Taft, a local Conservative Talk Radio personality on from 6PM to 9PM weeknights. She was broadcasting her show live from Lincoln Memorial Park where the Dignity Travelling Memorial Wall is set up this Memorial Day Weekend. She is a lovely lady with a love for America unmatched by many.
Visiting old friends was great, but making a new one is just as wonderful.

Dog Crazies

After having the displeasure of once stepping in a pile of dog shit inside of a prominent Variety Store near my home, I have been on a mission of complaining about non-service dogs inside of stores. Health codes prohibit this but people have misused the Americans with Disabilities Act to justify carrying their little mutts into any store they wish, even grocery stores.


I am not giving up, but the battle may just become a bit harder if an Estacada, Oregon family wins their lawsuit over a dead dog.


I’m not sure when this happened, but a families dog was run over and later died at the hands of a neighbor. He swears it was an accident, but the family said it was deliberate. He was convicted of animal abuse anyways and served 90 days in jail.


Apparently this wasn’t enough for the family as they have filed a lawsuit against the neighbor seeking 1.6 million dollars for "loss of companionship" due to the death of the 14 year old animal. The case went before a judge today with a jury. This, mind you, in ultra left-leaning liberal la la land of Oregon. In an interview I heard on KPAM 860 AM radio today, one family member stated that it was never thought it would get this far, but had the neighbor simply apologized and admitted guilt, the matter would have been finished. Yeah, right!


While I can sympathize with the loss of a beloved pet, loss of companionship awards have been historically reserved for the loss of a spouse. Losing a child has never resulted in any award for this reason. But now we face the possibility of a dog’s death setting a precedent for elevating dogs over legal status of even our children, if the family wins this lawsuit.


What I find interesting is the families attorney, un-named, is a nationally known specialist in animal law with a doctorate in biology. Do I smell an animal rights agenda unfolding? You bet.


Should the family win this lawsuit, the potential future ramifications just boggles my imagination.


Beam me up, Scotty, this place is going completely nuts, or at least, to the dogs.

After all the noise we hear from Mexico about the US stopping the unending flow of Illegal Immigrants flooding our borders, finally some of the drive-by leftstream media seems to be getting it.


As can be seen in reading the article linked above, Mexico is a hypocrite nation. While they demand the US cater to their people who Illegally enter our nation, they don’t even come close to giving any LEGAL immigrants to their nation an even shake.


Foreign-born Mexicans can’t hold seats in either house of the congress. They’re also banned from state legislatures, the Supreme Court and all governorships. Many states ban foreign-born Mexicans from spots on town councils. And Mexico’s Constitution reserves almost all federal posts, and any position in the military and merchant marine, for “native-born Mexicans.”

Encouraging tighter restrictions
Recently the Mexican government has gone even further. Since at least 2003, it has encouraged cities to ban non-natives from such local jobs as firefighters, police and judges.


Let America pass a similar ban on ILLEGAL immigrants and you can bet Mexico would be the first in line at the UN to begin bashing America over it. Even if illegals were to become Naturalized Citizens under the currently proposed non-amnesty amnesty program they are not barred from gainful employment with the government or other positions, unlike Mexico.


Other articles not linked to mention how the Mexican Military patrols their Southern Border to stem illegal crossings and immigration from Central America. But, the Mexican government has the audacity to complain because we wish to back-up our Border Patrol with National Guard troops, to the point of threatening to file suit against the US through Consulates if one ILLEGAL immigrant is detained by the National Guard.


This current flap over ILLEGAL immigration isn’t solely about poor people struggling to make a better life for themselves. Many do come here wanting to assimilate into our society and better support their families. Still more come here to drain our society of free benefits hoping to one day be able to take back the Southwestern United States to Mexico, which lost the land in the 1847 to 1848 Mexican-American War and who accepted millions of Dollars for it back then.


We are not a cold nation who turns our backs on anyone, even our enemies. Hisotry is replete with the examples of Americans dying for the liberation and feeding of others and in return, we are called Imperialistic and greedy. We are a benevolent nation but not an infinitely benevelot nation. We too have limits to our resources and wealth and if we don’t curb the pandemic flow of ILLEGAL Aliens flwoing through our pourous borders, we just may become a third world nation.


Recently we all saw a lot of energy expended by ILLEGAL Immigrants and their supporters. One has to wonder if they were to expend half that amount of energy towards ending the corruption within their own nation and providing jobs and benefits to their own citizens, would they even have the need to cross our borders by the droves?


Mexico is not a poor nation, not by any means. Because of the corruption there, the hard working poorer classes end up with nothing while their wealthy class ends up with it all. Just oil and tourism alone creates an abundance of wealth, not to mention NAFTA, which shifted a lot of American jobs South. Still, the profits aren’t making it to the workers so many decide to invade our nation and take advantage of our benevolence.


I have to think that if the working classes were to stand up to their wealthy class, be it by unionization, revolution or just demonstrations, to make their lives better in their own country, the support of the American people would stagger their imagination.


I guess it’s easier for them to make a spectacle of themselves in our nation than to seek improved conditions within their own.

Just when I thought John Murtha couldn’t sink any lower, sure enough, there he goes. His latest tirade is found at the link above.


For an ex-Marine he seems to can’t contain himself when it comes to trashing those on active duty today. I thought being classified with Kerry as a Viet nam Veteran was bad enough, I can only feel for my Marine brothers.


The Pentagon has been conducting an investigation into this charge and if the men are found guilty they will be prosecuted and dealt with appropriately. The US is about the only nation that will actually hold it’s people accountable for violating the rules of war.


While I will admit there is every possible chance that war got to these young Marines and they did in fact committ such a heinous act, shouldn’t the Pentagon be allowed to conduct a proper and Thorough investigation before a moonbat Congressman declares them guilty before the entire world? Are these men not entitled to the same justice as are criminals within our society?


One young Iraqi girl said the Marines killed six members of her family, including her parents.  “The Americans came into the room where my father was praying,” she said, “and shot him.”

On Wednesday, Rep. John Murtha, D-Pa., said the accounts are true.


So, according to John Murtha’s declaration, there is no need to investigate or hold a court martial, they are guilty.


That John Murtha hates the Bush Administration and the War on terror is no big secret. That hs is a decorated Marine Veteran is also no secret. That he so quickly turns on his brothers in arms and slanders them at every turn just blows my mind. He doesn’t even give them benefit of doubt while awaiting an investigation.


To me this appears how Democrats have decided to "Support the Troops, but Not the War!" With support like this who needs enemies?


Is it any wonder that so many work so hard to rid our government of moonbats as this and keep them from regaining control of the government?



West Point Graduates Against the War

Just this morning I found out about this group of West Point Graduates who are opposed to the war in Iraq and presumably, President Bush as well. Initially I was somewhat shocked and dismayed that graduates from such an esteemed institution as West Point could come out against what we are currently trying to accomplish in the War Against Terror. Then I remembered that graduating from West Point alone doesn’t make one any better than another as well as remembering the likes of John Kerry.

I looked up the group and found their website. On it I see the usual lefty rhetoric about Bush lied and such and the bios of the three founders of the group, Bill Cross, Jim Ryan, and Joe Wojcik, 1962 graduates. It was Joe Wojcik being interviewd briefly on Fox News’s Sunday Fox & Friends this morning and he did not impress me. Other than his opposition to the Iraq battles and complaining about West Point objecting to their use of the compyrighted name West Point, he would not answer any questions directly. When pressed about what he would have President do in the war, all he could say was he was not there to discuss that and they were not a group to call the shots. So, that led me to believe they must be left wingers opposing to be opposing.

That led me to seeking their website to see just who and what this group of maybe 30 graduates stand for. In looking over the bios, curiously absent from that of Joe Wojcik is how long he served, compared to the bios of his friends who served 10 years and 5 years. None state why they left Military Service after receiving a first class education in West Point. They also seem to rely heavily on West Points Cadet Honor System as well as past speeches by Dwight D. Eisenhower and Douglas McArthur, both West Point graduates and career Army Generals who led the Allied Forces to victory in World War Two.

Under their Purpose page we find;

We will not serve the lies.

·        The war in Iraq was launched illegally. It has since killed tens of thousands of innocents, causing incalculable damage to Iraq and the Iraqi people, as well as the reputation of the United States of America. We will not serve the lies.

·        When we West Point graduates took our commissioning oath of office one past June morning, we swore to protect our nation against all enemies, foreign and domestic. The deceitful connivances of the current administration have resulted in a war catastrophic to our nation’s interests: politically, economically, militarily, and morally. We now stand to protect our nation from these deceivers. We will not serve their lies.

·        We seek justice for all victims of this illegal war, both servicemen and servicewomen, and the citizens of Iraq.

·        To our purpose we invoke the words of Thomas Jefferson in the Declaration of Independence whereby we too “mutually pledge to each other our lives, our Fortunes, & our sacred Honor.”

This diatribe, protected by the US Constitution as “Freedom of Speech” reminds me of every other group opposing the US interests around the world as well as groups started up by leftists during the Viet Nam Conflict that led us to abandon an ally and allow them to become enslaved by the Communist North Vietnamese. Under the guise of “restoring America’s honor,” anti-war groups would allow another ally to be decimated and returned to the oppression they have suffered for decades under the regime of Saddam Hussein. I can find no honor in encouraging such an outcome.

On their Home Page we also see the usual left winged rhetoric we have become used to;

I have no need to covering each and every one of these bogus claims here they have been adequately covered before. Let it be said that for a group so deeply concerned with Duty and Honor, you would think they would have done their homework on these issues and seen that none of them are lies at all and that reasonable evidence did exist. Even more evidence is forthcoming in translated documents discovered and being translated daily, which matters little to those obsessed with opposing the Bush Administration and Republicans. That this miniscule group links itself to such an Honorable Institution as West Point Military Academy with anti-American rhetoric embarrasses me, as a US Army Veteran myself.

In their quotes of former President Eisenhower, they seem to be trying to paint the picture that he was totally against war, after his leading the Allied Forces to Victory in the European theater in defeating Nazi Germany. If this is truly the case, may I remind the WPGATW that it was President Eisenhower, a Republican, that started the training of the ill fated invasion at the Bay of Pigs that was executed under the Kennedy Administration to rid Cuba of the Dictator, Fidel Castro? Makes one wonder just how they missed that little gem in their search for support of their anti-war rhetoric. Also forgotten in their quotes were the following ones;

"History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid." — Dwight D. Eisenhower, First Inaugural Address, Jan. 20, 1953

Reminiscent of John Kerry’s Viet Nam Veterans Against the War, who had strong ties to the Communist Party of America, we also see on their home page;




Why indeed? Did they forget it is the Soldiers Duty to follow the commands of the Commander in Chief, the current President? Did they neglect to discover that our Military was deployed further and more often under the previous Clinton Administration, after he decimated their ability by reducing their size and numbers? Did they also forget the attacks of September 11, 2001? Can they not see that the Saddam regime was harboring terrorists and were presenting a danger to the free world by offering training and funding to terrorists groups?

It’s really sad to me to see otherwise honorable men stoop to misusing the name and integrity of such an institution as West Point to further the political agenda of leftist groups that would place US sovereignty under the United Nations and allow third world countries to pick us apart.

It was said this morning that West Point was taking legal measures to stop them from using their honorable name. This group has the protected freedom of speech to utter this diatribe, but I sure hope West Points succeeds in stripping them of their usage of the name. This group deserves no more credence than the American Communist Party does, in my estimation.

Another mother asked President Kennedy, "Why did my son have to die in Viet Nam?"

Another mother asked President Truman, "Why did my son have to die in Korea?"

Another mother asked President F.D. Roosevelt, "Why did my son have to die at Iwo Jima?"

Another mother asked President W. Wilson, "Why did my son have to die on the battlefield of France?"

Yet another mother asked President Lincoln, "Why did my son have to die at Gettysburg?"

And yet another mother asked President G. Washington, "Why did my son have to die near Valley Forge?"

The Last Helicopter

In an article appearing in the March 9, 2006 WSJ Opinion Journal, author Amir Taheri speaks of a dream of Hassan Abbasi of the last helicopter ferrying the fleeing Americans as they are fleeing the Middle East (The Abode of Islam) and being shot at.


Taheri asserts that Hassan Abbasi has been addressing crowds in Tehran informing them that “the U.S. does not have the stomach for a long conflict and will soon revert to its traditional policy of "running away," leaving Afghanistan and Iraq, indeed the whole of the Middle East, to be reshaped by Iran and its regional allies.” Of course, this is the “strategy” we showed in Viet Nam as we allowed the anti-war left to make a mockery of our brave troops sacrifice and allowed the Communist North Vietnamese to just waltz in and enslave all of South Viet Nam. Over and over again, America has shown we are not to be counted on in times of battle and have all too often abandoned our freedom-seeking allies in their time of need.


Relating it to the infamous picture of the CIA helicopter ferrying the last people they could carry out of Saigon, Mr. Taheri states, It was that image in Saigon that concluded the Vietnam War under Gerald Ford. Jimmy Carter had five helicopters fleeing from the Iranian desert, leaving behind the charred corpses of eight American soldiers. Under Ronald Reagan the helicopters carried the corpses of 241 Marines murdered in their sleep in a Hezbollah suicide attack. Under the first President Bush, the helicopter flew from Safwan, in southern Iraq, with Gen. Norman Schwarzkopf aboard, leaving behind Saddam Hussein’s generals, who could not believe why they had been allowed live to fight their domestic foes, and America, another day. Bill Clinton’s helicopter was a Black Hawk, downed in Mogadishu and delivering 16 American soldiers into the hands of a murderous crowd.”


It would appear the President George Bush is considered an aberration in that it is felt that as long as he is President, “there will be no Last Helicopter.” Iranian President Ahmadinejad is now merely “waiting Bush out,” desiring a change of policies and a return of the weak kneed policies former administrations have shown America to embrace.


Mr. Taheri asserts that the attacks of September 11 have changed the perspective of Americans towards the dangers of the world and terrorism and that successive leaders will carry forth the policies of the Bush Administration. Sadly, it appears that too many Democrats and their supporters disagree.


America has been rolling over and going back to sleep ever since 1979 when Iran stormed the American Embassy and took our people hostage. 9-11 should have been the wake-up call to finally show America the seriousness of terrorism.


We have had two attacks on our own soil and untold numbers more against American interests overseas. Many have woken up and see what needs to be done, finally. Too many more have not.

As a former US Army Helicopter Crew Chief, the helicopter metaphor comes pretty close to home. While there have been "Last Helicopters" all too often, "First Helicopters" have been taking the attack back to terrorists and supporters since shortly after 9-11.

The world itself did not change. But, strong leaders that can see the dangers poised by decades of coddling terrorists have stood up and said enough!

America was united on this until one party saw opposition as a road back to power, at the peril of our men and women currently in harms way. Should they regain power and once again treat acts of war as crimes, you can expect many more 9-11s.

How many more innocents need die until you realize that we are dealing with the equivalent of a herd of rabid dogs that need killed? We need to ensure our elected leaders have what it takes to defeat these animals and end their reign of terror against not only America, but freedom desiring people of the Middle East as well.




Zacarias Moussaoui receives Life in Prison without Release

Like many today, I also disagree with the sentence Zacarias Moussaoui received but on second thought can see no matter what, it’s lose – lose for us.

If he had received death, it would take between 15 to 25 years to execute him with the left and other bleeding hearts turning over every stone they could find to either commute the sentence or overturn the conviction. Trust the ACLU and Amnesty International to come to his aid, the ACLU wanting his oppressive sentence overturned and Amnesty International monitoring his imprisonment to ensure he is treated humanely.

Alive in prison he is not a martyr. However, he could be a tool used by the terrorists in the future if they kidnapped some important hostage and wanted to swap. Naturally, our person would probably be returned headless.

So, like I said, there is no easy answer to this sentencing. From what I’ve heard he is going to The United States Penitentiary Administrative Maximum Facility (ADX) in Florence, Colorado, a very maximum security federal prison in Colorado that Amnesty International just hates with a passion. Unofficially it is known as the Alcatraz of the Rockies and houses only the most dangerous prisoners in need of the tightest control.

Prisoners have complained about excessive steps taken by guards and officials in these types of facilities to control inmates. Constant surveillance and random searches at the whim of prison staff can be humiliating, and their frequency may be used as methods of intimidation and sleep deprivation. If that is the case, it is my firm hope that he be locked away in a cold damp cell and left to rot while the visions he has of his 72 virgins slowly become shriveled up old ladies.

Oh, this headline is just too funny for words.


First and foremost, this isn’t about immigrants. It’s about ILLEGAL Immigrants. Every nation on this planet has their own immigration laws and expect visitors to follow them. If you don’t, you are in violation of their laws, which makes you ILLEGAL, not undocumented.


Personally, it doesn’t matter to me where people come from, all of our ancestors migrated from somewhere once upon a time. But, they came here following what the law was at that time.


The current broohaha is a slick way to mask the agenda for removing America’s borders and making it the only country with free access to any and all. The problems that would create are just to obvious to list here, everyone should be able to see that.


Anyways, back to all this "clout" that these protesters showed yesterday, the first annual (probably) Uno de Mayo (May 1).


Our drive-by leftstream media is telling us basically that our country was shut down yesterday because of the Great American Boycott, where ILLEGAL immigrants and their supporters decided to not buy anything, go to work or to school. Pssst, lefty’s, it didn’t work, we are still a functioning country and there is no pinch resulting from your boycott.


It has been reported that an estimated one million turned out for this boycott, nationwide. Whoopdi-doo. After all the weeks and weeks of announcing and organizing, a paltry one million nationwide is all that turned out? Let my heart be still (from laughing). The article states;


The national "Day Without Immigrants" effort also urged workers to walk off their jobs Monday, but it didn’t seem to have much impact here, according to local business operators.


Even with a deceptive headline, they admit it had little or no effect here. In fact, I only saw one taqueria closed all day and even though they have never received my business, they sure won’t now. I’m sure my boycott of them will nearly equal their boycott yesterday.


"I just wanted to create awareness and want the government to grant us a comprehensive immigration reform plan," said Saron Nehf of Vancouver, who organized the march.


Ms. Nehf, all the reform that is needed is for those desiring to come to America to follow the laws, just as I would be expected to do if I visited your country of origin.


Ms. Nehf, apparently a 28 year old immigrant born in Panama, was brought here by here parents 26 years ago. She neglects to mention if they came in legally or illegally. 


"I decided we needed to do something," Nehf said.


Isn’t that grand. This 28 year old employee of the YWCA decided that "we" needed to do something. Did she ever consider obeying the law? Is it that impossible for others to follow our laws as we are expected to do if we visit their countries?


I harbor no ill will against anyone trying to better their lives, but stop and think. If these ILLEGAL immigrants were to apply a portion of the energy they are expending to protest our immigration laws in their own homelands, demanding better jobs, better living conditions and benefits from the governments, their lot in life could be better in their own homeland. Instead, they have seen the freebies offered here in America and have seen the left pandering to them by offering them benefits and such, as well as paying them substandard wages, and are taking advantage of our good nature.


It isn’t free, though. It’s our tax dollars being spent to care for these people as well as hunt for them (in the rare instances any are hunted for) while the majority of whatever monies they earn here end up being sent back to their homelands. That drains our economy because they are removing more from it than they are paying back into it.


I’m all for a "Guest Worker" program, but not as it is being lauded now by the government. NO AMNESTY!! If one has the ability to properly perform a job and there are no takers from our country for it, by all means, let them register for the job and legally come in to the country and work that job, for the allotted time. Let them pay taxes on their income as the rest of us do and pay for what they will be getting from the job.


This would stop the under the table payments with no taxes paid. It would also let us know where they are and stop employers from abusing them by placing them in substandard housing and reaping excessive profits off their backs. It would also ensure they are properly vaccinated against communicable diseases to help prevent the spread of diseases we defeated long ago. When the job is finished, they go home to their families and can petition their own governments, who also have vast amounts of weath they don’t wish to share, for better jobs, benefits and such.


Of course, those desiring Aztland and actively working towards snatching the West Coast back to Mexico, should be deported immediately.


In all, I have to say the Great American boycott was a flop. The main effect it really had was to show many Americans that were blind to it that we do indeed have an Immigration problem and they may now see what their lefty ways has brought us.


If the rest of the nations turnout was as pitiful as ours here was, 230 out of nearly 152,000 people, roughly one tenth of one percent of our population, maybe they are not the great backbone of America they claim to be.


Wake up and smell the menudo, America.
