Who Started This War?

Ask any leftist and I’m sure you will hear that George Bush started it after 9-11. Some may reluctantly agree that invading Afghanistan was all right, even though they indicate they would rather have just arrested Osama Bin Ladin. Sorry, but how do you arrest someone who is entrenched in caves and difficult to find?

Starting back in the 1970s, radical Islamists declared war on the US and every time they attacked, we either turned a blind eye or treated it as simple crime, sometimes getting a conviction and sentence for the perpetrators.

In 1979, a group of Iranians attacked and seized the American Embassy in Tehran. Embassies are sovereign soil of the nation they represent. An attack on one is an act of war. Shortly after this, American began being attacked and kidnapped in the Middle East. Very little was done.

In April of 1983 a large vehicle packed with high explosives was driven into the US Embassy compound in Beirut, killing 63.

Six months later a large truck filled with over 2500 pounds of TNT crashed through the gate of the Marine Corps headquarters in Beirut killing 241 Marines. We withdrew our troops.

In December 1983, another truck loaded with explosives is driven into the US Embassy in Kuwait.

In September 1984, another van was driven into the gates of the US Embassy in Beirut.

In April 1985, the terrorism spread to Europe with a bomb exploding in a restaurant frequented by US soldiers in Madrid.

In August a car bomb is driven into the main gate of the US Air Force Base at Rhein-Main, Germany, killing two and wounding 20.

The same year, the Achille Lauro cruise ship is hijacked with one disabled American in a wheelchair, Leon Klinghofer, is singled out of the passenger list and executed.

Civilian airliners became the target when they bombed TWA Flight 840 in April of 1986 killing4 and Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland in 1988, killing 259.

January 1993, two CIA agents are shot and killed as they enter CIA headquarters in Langley, Virginia.

February 1993, a group of terrorists are arrested after their rented van explodes prematurely in the underground parking garage of the World Trade Center in New York City. Six people are killed and over 1000 are injured.

November 1995 another car bomb explodes at the US military complex in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia killing 7.

June of 1996, a truck bomb explodes 35 yards from the US military compound in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia destroying the Khobar Towers, a US Air Force barracks, killing 19 and injuring over 500.

The US embassies in Kenya and Tanzania are attacked simultaneously, killing 224.

In October 2000 the USS Cole, docked in Yemen, comes under attack from a small boat filled with explosives. 17 die.

Of course, we can’t forget September 11, 2001 when hijacked airliners were flown into the World trade Centers, Pentagon and crashed into a field in Pennsylvania, killing nearly 3,000 people, civilians.

You may have thought 9-11 was the beginning of this war, but it wasn’t. This war was declared on us long ago, we did not ask for it. But, we have it and much like WW2, it has been thrust on us and we must stay the course and fight it.

Saddam wasn’t directly involved in the 9-11 attacks, but there is ample evidence he was involved in terror. Iraq is but another battle in the overall War on Terror. Should we fail in Iraq, I fear the terrorist would be even more emboldened than they have become over that last decades and no one will be safe. As they have demonstrated time and again,

The anti-war left asks, "how many more have to die?" I ask, "how many more WILL die before you wake up and see this threat for the enemy to freedom and safety that they are?" This threat is real. These people are dangerousa nd evil and they cannot be appeased. This war was declared on us and even though I don’t think it’s been prosecuted perfectly, it must be prosecuted and must be won, for everyone’s sake.

Wake up people, put your hatred of Bush behind you and see that we are fighting a radical and emboldened enemy hell-bent, once again, on world domination. Given their way, there will be no freedom of religion, freedom of speech and women will lose any and all rights they have.

Wake up, pray for our troops and their mission.
